The beautiful, heart-rending story of a young family living a sustainable life in the Norwegian countryside – until tragedy strikes. Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner 2024.

It’s not easy growing your own food, running an isolated smallholding, and home schooling three kids. But Scandi photographer Maria and Englishman Nik are committed to raising their kids in a sustainable off-the-grid way. It’s a hectic but seemingly idyllic life, full of precious moments like family walks in the forest. Then the unthinkable happens, and Nik is forced to re-evaluate. Director Silje Evensmo Jacobsen filmed the bilingual household over several years. She captures this close-knit family with tenderness and grace, as they find a way through their grief and forge a new kind of life.

Limited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking.
Nature, which Maria adored, has a way of healing itself, so it is apt that this documentary chronicles that same cycle of renewal and growth in the people she loved
