This year’s Berlinale Teddy Award winner and Hong Kong FF opener is an affecting and poignant drama about love, loss and legacy from acclaimed filmmaker Ray Yeung (Suk Suk).

Angie and Pat have been happily partnered for four decades. They’re wealthy and content, but never wedded because of Hong Kong’s marriage laws. They spend their days strolling, shopping, cooking, and hosting warm family gatherings in their spacious apartment. But when Pat suddenly passes away, Angie must fight for her estate as Hong Kong law defers to the male next of kin – her brother in-law, Shing. The inheritance would mean an opportunity for Shing’s family to step up from poverty, but at the cost of Angie’s security. Multi award-winner Yeung’s gift for reflecting domestic and cultural milieus with great empathy and gentleness is again in evidence here.

Limited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking.
Beautifully written and performed … illustrates Yeung’s keen eye for the nuances of social dynamics, especially regarding matters of wealth and class that many may prefer to skirt around when it comes to family

Strong performances and an unshakeable sense of place… it is stripped down yet potent
