Screen Day Out

Screen Day Out was a program of films, specially programmed for secondary school students, which screened at both the 2018 and 2019 Sydney Film Festivals.

Students attended screenings at a special discounted student rate; at Ritz Cinemas Randwick, Hayden Orpheum Cremorne and Casula Powerhouse in 2018, and at the State Theatre in 2019. The Screen Day Out films were specially selected in consultation with the NSW Department of Education to align with the NSW school curriculum. Detailed study guides were developed by ATOM (Australian Teachers of Media) to help teachers connect numerous subjects to the film and its themes, and build a unit of study around the film festival excursion. Students participated in Q&A sessions with visiting filmmakers, a writing competition and workshops as part of Screen Day Out.
