Black Snow
Natalia Zubkova, courageous citizen journalist and mother of three, lives in the remote mining town of Kiselyovsk. In an area reliant on coal, no one wants to talk about the obvious pollution – including all the dark snow. Over time, her campaign uncovers the true extent of the environmental disaster and its impact on her family’s health. When an abandoned mine catches fire and toxic gas seeps into local homes, Zubkova’s video footage goes viral. Her activism inevitably raises the ire of the Russian authorities, and Zubkova faces a tough decision: to stay or leave. Winner of CPH:DOX’s F:ACT Award 2024.
