Something Like An Autobiography
The director and his wife play versions of themselves – Farooki is Fahan, a famous Bangladeshi filmmaker, while Tisha plays Tithi, one of the country’s most prominent actors. In this traditional society, they face increasingly forceful queries about their childlessness despite years of marriage. Eventually Tithi falls pregnant; what follows is a time of closeness and love. One night, as Tithi is on the verge of giving birth, Fahan goes off to investigate a disturbance in their neighbourhood – and fails to return. This riveting exploration of power becomes a thriller in which the personal is political and vice versa, and Farooki showcases Bangladesh with near-tactile immediacy.
