The uber-rich hunt human beings for sport in this blackly comic satire produced by cinema’s reigning king of the grotesque Ulrich Seidl (Rimini, SFF 2022).

How does the man who has everything find new ways to entertain himself? In between the helicopter rides and corporate takeovers, why not squeeze in the odd murder? Directors Daniel Hoesl (Soldate Jeannette, SFF 2013) and Julia Niemann (Davos) continue to explore the gulf between the haves and have-nots in this mordantly funny descent into the depraved excesses of the wealthy. The twist in Veni Vidi Vici is that the rich don’t even try to hide their crimes – politicians and journalists just look the other way. This no-holds-barred satire works thanks to a fully committed cast delivering wickedly deadpan performances against the carnage.

Austrian black comedy Veni Vidi Vici ... manages a believably opulent display of set dressing while turning an icily dispassionate gaze on an elite wealthy enough to literally get away with murder
Jonathan Romney, Screen International
Co-directors Daniel Hoesl and Julia Niemann tap a nerve with their unconventional murder mystery, which asks not who the killer is but why the system indulges (and even encourages) the 1%
Peter Debruge, Variety
