Woman Of… traces 45 years in the life of Aniela (an exhilarating Małgorzata Hajewska-Krzysztofik) from her youth in the 1980s. Living as a man, she falls in love with the flirtatious Iza (Joanna Kulig, Cold War SFF 2018) and marries. Subsequently, Aniela experiences body dysmorphia and so must navigate the oppressive world of conservative Poland. Entering the 21st century, Aniela openly comes out, but transphobia remains ever present in her marriage and career. The delicate direction and the camerawork from DP-director Englert captures the triumphs as much as hardships in this sensitive and challenging tale, charting the lack of gender recognition in Polish law to the present day.
