A tennis coach teams with a mysterious psychic tutor to seek revenge on a hit-and-run driver. This delightfully lo-fi cosmic comedy-fantasy is set in Auckland and surrounding alternate realities.

Kiwi writer-director Michael Duignan hits the bullseye with his hugely entertaining and imaginative debut feature. Limping former tennis pro Dutch wants to become psychic so he can take revenge on the hit-and-run driver he blames for everything. Lyra is a psychic coach who suddenly appears and promises to teach Dutch about things like “hyper-dimensional consciousness.” Duignan turns his modest budget into an asset, and this cosmic caper is played to deadpan perfection by Benedict Wall and Florence Noble.

Limited seats are available for patrons requiring access for wheelchairs, low vision and hearing loop. Please contact our ticketing team directly on 1300 733 733 or tickets@sff.org.au to complete your booking.
A quirky comedy with a big heart, some deliciously shoddy B-film action and some broad strokes drama. What makes The Paragon stand out is that it delivers on all those fronts
Theodoor Steen, Screen Anarchy
With a uniquely Kiwi brand of laconic humour and sincere love of 1980s sci-fi and fantasy, it's a midnight movie cosmic adventure straight from the heart
Michelle Carey, International Film Festival Rotterdam
