Memory
Chastain plays Sylvia, a single-mother social worker and recovering alcoholic with her life finally in control. However, traumas resurface when she is stalked by Saul (Sarsgaard) – an unwelcome figure from her past who fails to acknowledge his previous behaviour due to his early onset dementia. The incident ignites a companionship between the two, leading to healing and emotional confrontations. Franco’s script explores two people grappling with their past – Saul can’t remember, and Sylvia wants to forget. Franco’s films are not for the fainthearted, but his latest is deeply sensitive and compassionate, carried by pitch-perfect performances.
